As internal medicine doctors, also called internists, our physicians can serve as primary care physicians for adults and adolescents, as well as provide consultation for other physicians. Internal medicine doctors, also called internists, are medical doctors who specialize in diagnosing and treating adult health concerns, short of surgery. They have specialized training beyond medical school focusing on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases. They also offer an understanding of wellness (disease prevention and the promotion of health), weight concerns, and mental health. When other medical internal medicine physicians, such as surgeons, are involved, internists coordinate their patient's care and manage medical problems associated with that care.
